To schedule yourself for volunteer work, please sign up on the calendar at http://events.hdpl.org:8401/hdplpublic/nscvolunteers. Further instructions for using the calendar are in the purple field at the top of the calendar itself. You will choose a library location in the signup process, but please don't change the color coding that will display on the calendar! The color indicates to our managers where you have chosen to work.
Henderson Libraries has several locations where you can volunteer. For addresses, phone numbers, and hours, go to http://www.mypubliclibrary.com/contact/locations.html. Please be sure you are signing up at a time that your chosen location is open!
Volunteer work will start Feb. 1, 2010. Please sign up for a shift of at least two hours, but no more than four hours. Unless you have made other arrangements, please sign up at least three days in advance, in order to allow staff to plan work and supervision for you. Because space is limited we ask that no more than three people sign up to work at the same time and place. If you must work on short notice, please call the location directly to make arrangements.
You will be given a time sheet to record your work sessions. Please don't forget to record your time.
You may attend a library program or activity and count it as four hours of your volunteer work requirement. Please note this on your time sheet if you choose this option.
General Rules: Please dress appropriately and comfortably for the work you may be doing, which can be very physical. If you work in public, you will be given a volunteer badge to wear. Drugs, smoking, alcohol, and weapons are prohibited on library property. Cell phone use is prohibited in the public areas of the library, so please use your phone outside the library, or in staff areas.
